Physician Considerations:
Thank you for interest in the ProTime® Microcoagulation
System.
In addition to in office testing, patient self-testing is now available
for Coumadin® management. The ProTime® system is the first product to
be FDA approved for your patients to test their prothrombin time at home.
ProTime® is available by prescription only, so you will be in control
of selection and management of the patients who are appropriate for a
home testing program.
What is ProTime® ?
ProTime® consists of a hand-held instrument and supplies
needed to perform the test. The Tenderfeet® Plus device is used to incise
the finger and collect the blood sample. The reagent cuvette has five
channels which tests the prothrombin time in triplicate and simultaneously
performs two levels of quality control. No other system has the safety
of triplicate testing and built-in reagent controls. You can be sure your
patients will get a good result every time a test is performed.
Why in-office testing?
In-office testing offers better patient management because
you can make dose adjustments and counsel patients before they leave the
office. Staff efficiency increases by eliminating the phone calls after
receiving lab reports. The convenience of in-office testing also means
greater patient satisfaction.
Why patient self-testing?
Getting Started Forms for patient referral (7 pages)
Physician-directed patient self-testing has the potential
to improve therapeutic control, reduce the number of complications and
associated healthcare expenditures, and improve health outcomes and patient
satisfaction. Patient self-testing will:
Extend physician control over patient monitoring,
Improve patient management and therapeutic control through
more frequent testing
Decrease the number and cost of complications associated
with inadequate anticoagulation due to poorly monitored status.
