| The meter measures optical reflectance.
Blood is applied to the test strip where it comes in contact
with a red blood cell lysing agent which induces red blood
cells to burst and release hemoglobin. The meter measures
the change in reflected light before and after blood application
to determine total hemoglobin. A result is reported within
10 seconds of sample application. Both fingerstick and
venous samples are accepted. |
